Ball-movement, you can’t start teaching it early enough. Having some players hog the ball and never pass, there is not a lot that is worse. But forcing ball movement for the sake of ball movement is that really the way to go?

I don’t believe so. Enforcing a minimum pass rule although sometimes understandable can also lead to bad decisions. Rather focus on encouraging good decision making.

If you get a fastbreak, please go ahead and take that layup. If the other team scores, then you probably don’t have a fastbreak and you need to move/pass the ball before shooting.

Instead of forcing the pass, use sentences structured with “if…, then…”. This does not only encourage ball movement, but also decision making and a better understanding of an overall flow of the game.

Let me know what you think in the comments below. I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas on how to encourage ball movement.
